Mission
From WikiYoungIPY-UA
Our volunteer network seeks to promote elements of the International Polar Year (IPY) to the Alaskan general public and education system. The main aims can be summarized as follows:
1) Outreach activities bringing together young researchers/scientists with Alaskan society at large;
2) Development of supplementary educational tools and materials for use in Alaska's classrooms to promote awareness of and participation in science;
3) Contribution to a public dialog on Polar issues concerning community-level problems in respect to global matters and the active stewardship of Polar resources; and
4) Appreciation of Life in Alaska, emphasizing rural communities. This involves understanding the physical, ecological, and social conditions of Earth's Polar Regions.
